26A Celebrating Failure

This past semester I joined a Christian club and part of joining meant learning Bible verses every week. At first, I thought it was going to be easy; the verses did not seem to hard. Every week included a new verse to learn. For the first five weeks, I failed the quiz. I was getting so frustrated with it. Since I thought that I was going to fail anyways, I started to study an hour before the test. This was me practically giving up on the situation.

There was a point in the semester where I told myself I am stupid for not trying harder. It is just memorizing words. My friend told me about an app that helps you learn. It is like the quizlet for Bible verses. Every night I would study for about 5 min, and before I knew it, I started passing.

I learned that there is a way to get the job done. For me, it was finding the best way to study. It took many attempts, but I finally got it. I did not like failing, but it humbled me that I am not as good at memorizing as I thought I was.

Failure is growth time; no one likes to fail because we want to succeed. We as humans want no roadblocks and smooth sailing at the time. The hardest part is accepting the fact that I am wrong. I would make excuses like I was not given enough time or the version was different than what I studied. Once I accepted that I am doing something wrong, I looked to find other ways to find success. I also get upset when I do not succeed, and I need to control my behavior in a better fashion.

I do not believe that I will want to take on more risk through taking this class. If anything, I have learned that I do not want to start a company from the ground up as a sole proprietor. I would want to have less risk by buying a company already on its feet or work for an already established business. I respect others who have this drive, but I do not think it is for me. And I am grateful to have learned this before it was too late.

  1. Hey Grant! Memorizing bible verses is no easy task. The verbiage is also different than how we’re used to speaking so that Isn’t much help either! Binge-ing seems to be the way that I study best too right before a test. It ensures that I remember the material at least for as long as I need to remember it. Good job!
