- Systems vs. Goals
- Goals are for "losers." We never win with goals; we only add on more goals.
- Systems are used to achieve goals without noticing. Use systems because they are more controllable and regular.
- Deciding vs. Wishing
- Wishing is only in your head. It is just the inward feeling.
- Deciding is taking that wish and making something of it. There are three steps to make a decision and complete it.
- What do you want?
- What is the price you must pay to get what you want?
- Pay the price.
- 6:20 AM, Saturday mornings, 2017
- This book was written in 2013, and the author asked what he would be doing on any given Saturday in 2017.
- The answer is writing a comic strip. He made a system and kept track of it. He is confident enough to say that he would be doing it for four years in the future.
- This is the reason why systems are essential. They drill habits into us, that make goals easy to achieve.
- "Moist Robots"
- The author believes that all we are are moist robots.
- Just like robots, humans can program themselves to do a particular task.
- To program anything more challenging, we must first program systems into the three most fundamental parts.
- Exercise
- Food
- Rest
- A significant factor we need to program is our attitude because it affects many aspects of our lives.
How did this enhance what I'm learning in ENT3003:
Deciding is something that I can apply to this class. While the book shows the three steps, there are micro steps in between that help make sure the steps are right in the first place. The first step: what do you want? That is a multi-step process that includes all your options and narrowing it down to one. Step 2: What is the price? You have to make the systems to accomplish the goal. Step 3: pay the price. This also includes checking your work to make sure everything is running smoothly. If it is not then either step 1, step 2, or both need to be changed to pay the price.
Design an assignment for the class:
The assignment who be to make a system that would change your daily routine and follow it daily for a week and see the results from it. If you liked the results, you could form that behavior into a habit, if not then you can try again or take it as a learning experience.
Aha moment
I realize that my classes are working hand in hand together. There are major concepts that my classes are teaching me that are demonstrated out in the books I am reading. It is impressive to see how other people take and interpret this information.
