20A Growing Your Social Capital

Industry Expert: this person really enjoyed the effort I have put into my project. He helped install my churches sound and tech equipment. He has many clients and always getting to experiment with the newest toys and gadgets the tech world has to offer. I ended up texting him and asked for his opinion on what the app is like. He explained that it was a good idea, but that it was a waiting game because there has not been a pair of smart glasses that has come out yet, so I cannot even start making the app. However, he has connections with major tech companies

Market Expert: there is a Youtuber that I follow that is trying to make a platform for worship leaders to become better. He markets directly to my prototypical consumers. I explained that my project was just something that I was doing for school. However, I asked him if he would let me sponsor one of his videos if he would promote my product in return, implying that the product was real. He said that would be cool! This will make my network explode. He also works with an app called Ableton Live and said that the glasses also had to work with my app too. That is something I can work on.

Industry Supplier: While the industry expert is def a supplier, there is a supplier of audiovisual at my church. He also liked the idea but said that I would need a lot of capital to start the business. He knows that my knowledge in the industry is minimal, so I would have to hire a lot of programmers and marketers to spread the word. He was the one that was the most real about my endeavors. He realizes that I am not the most committed to my project because I am not pursuing it in real life.

Reflection: I enjoyed talking to these leaders in my industry. They helped open up new opportunities and were willing to network with me. I enjoyed this time because it got to show me that there are people in the world that want to see others succeed and help them do so. I will also look into using Ableton with the glasses too! That was a brilliant idea.

Hope everyone has/had a good weekend!

  1. Hey Grant! While I am not sure what your software development expertise is, it would definitely be in your best interest to partner with a software engineer. On a marketing perspective, the youtuber is also a great idea. Since Youtube is such a large and growing platform for up and coming musicians, it will be of great benefit to you. You could even expand out of church with the product!

It was an awesome idea to interview someone who would be able to promote your product on youtube. Youtube is a great way to market an item to a large demographic of people from all different backgrounds. You really had some great ideas on people to interview. I also enjoyed interviewing the people and got a lot out of them for my assignment. Great job!

  3. Hey Grant, I loved reading your interviews because I learned so much that I did not know before. I was definitely taken by surprise when I read that you made contact with an actual Youtuber about your product, and that he promoted it on his channel. That will be great for future connections and will definitely bring a lot of publicity and traction to your product. Cool Post!
