15A Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

Through my interviews, I found some essential news regarding how I would go about the glasses. My first interviewer cared about how the glasses looked. It is necessary for the glasses not to look like a computer on the persons face. She believed that style was more important than functionality. She liked the thought of the glasses, but she did not want them. She said that the price would not really matter, but a few hundred dollars would be reasonable.
The second interviewer helped change my mind about the product altogether. He thought that I get into the software world and create the app. He stated that not a lot of people would buy electronics from a company that they have never heard of before. Intel started making smart glasses, so to develop an app for the glasses makes it much easier. The functionality would be so vast since they can connect to your phone also.
The third interviewer went deep on how post-purchase evaluation works for him. He thought the purchase would be a good idea if he got a lot of benefits out of it. I stated how I might turn into a software company and he said that he would be more willing to buy the glasses then.
This assignment is really making me think that I want to switch over to a software company. It is more doable than creating the glasses and the OS. I will research some smart glass companies to see if there is one that will fit my opportunity nicely.

  1. Hey Grant! Based on your second interview, maybe a good route would be to form a strategic partnership with a known software company. You can create the prototype and they can create the software so you can balloon off of their reputation, thus making your product more marketable. Style is also important but I think in your case, many people in churches would prefer functionality over style.

  2. Hey Grant! I think you did an awesome job on this assignment and really chose great people to interview to understand buyer behavior. It is great that you are now seeing it may be more beneficial to start a software company rather than a glasses company. So, by doing this assignment you could really see the most beneficial way of starting the business. Awesome job!

  3. Throughout the entrepreneurial process, your original idea changes. I think that discovering the need for change in your original idea is important, but it’s often hard to find exactly how you need to change. I think that your interviews provided a great opportunity to pivot. Developing the software needed for use on smart glasses would be easier and add functionality since you could use it on your phone as well.
